It is a state of conscious Deep Sleep. In Meditation, you remain in the Waking state of consciousness, and gently focus the mind, while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations, and images to arise and go on. Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep relaxation to guide you to the seat of your conscious awareness. Through complete voluntary stillness and conscious relaxation of the physical body, tune yourself to the electric current of your nervous system and cue it to start to relax, rest and calm down. To practice yoga nidra you either need a prerecorded script or an instructor to guide you. While some like the ambiance in a yoga class others like to practice it in their own space. A yoga nidra session would range anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes or even more depending on the kind of experience and goals you are seeking.
